After portraying Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy, a dino hunter in Jurassic World, and now in the midst of rumors that he is attached to play none other than Indiana Jones in a reboot of the franchise, it is hard to believe that Chris Pratt could be anything but confident, suave, and adventurous.
But real life is not as easy and cool as the movies. Although he is starting to become a huge action star, Pratt reveals in an interview with Men's Health U.K. that he struggled with weight issues that caused him much mental and emotional turmoil.
Pratt shares that one of his most dramatic weight gain occurred during his time playing Andy Dwyer on the show Parks and Recreation. It was a decision that he announced to the show's creators - to gain weight for the character - and it became almost a game for him - seeing how much weight he could gain in the fastest amount of time. But he was a little to good at the game and in 2013, he was almost 300 lbs.
He said that when he finally saw himself in an episode, he was shocked.
"Oh my God, I'm getting fat," he shared that he said to himself. But he also recognized that his popularity at the time was in part due to his massive weight gain.
The yo-yo dieting for roles, plus his admitted dinner indulgences with his wife, actress Anna Faris, took their toll on him.
"We were drinking a lot of wine and having fun. I was her little Hansel out in the woods and she was fattening me up to put me in the fire. It was like Momma Bear and Papa Bear... I was impotent, fatigued, emotionally depressed. I had real health issues that were affecting me in a major way. It's bad for your heart, your skin, your system, your spirit," he told the magazine.
So he decided to get extra ripped for his next role as a Navy SEAL in Zero Dark Thirty and his many instagram followers were treated to the fruits of his labor when he posted a shirtless instagram selfie of himself post workout.
And ever since then, he said he vowed he was "never going to be fat again."
And so far, it looks like he has kept to that promise by keeping in shape.
