Microsoft recently announced the renaming of the Xbox team working on the Gears of War franchise. It will now be called "The Coalition" instead of Black Tusk Studios.
The Gears of War video game series is created by Epic Games and owned by Microsoft. According to the company, the franchise sold more than 22 million units of the game, earning more than $1 billion in revenue through January 2014.
On Wednesday, June 3, Rod Fergusson – the studio head of The Coalition and ex-head of Black Tusk Studios –revealed the renaming of the Gears of War studio.
"The Coalition speaks to who we are as a team, and what it is we're working on," said Fergusson. "When people hear 343 Industries, they associate it with Halo; when they hear Turn 10 Studios, they know that's who makes Forza. Moving forward, when you hear 'The Coalition,' we want you to think of 'Gears of War.'"
Fergusson also revealed the new logo of The Coalition along with the name change. The logo is made of a circle of Cs that refers to the teeth of Gears of War's iconic weapon, the Lancer.
Fergusson also teased that gamers will be able to find what the team has been working on for the Gears of War at the upcoming E3 event on Monday, June 15.
Previous rumors have indicated that Microsoft and the game studio are developing a remastered version of the original Gears of War game for Xbox One.
The remastered version of the game for Xbox One is expected to include reworked cut scenes and updated visuals. Microsoft has not confirmed any plans for this version of Gears of War, but gamers hope that the company will shed some light on it during the E3 event.
