PlanetSide 2 is a massive video game, and it will be coming to the Sony PlayStation 4 on June 23.
PlanetSide 2 was built completely from scratch to stage immense fights between gamers, featuring soldiers, weaponry and vehicles in matches. Its scale is unrivaled, with players given different chances at taking on different roles within teams.
The title strikes a perfect balance between first-person, semi-realistic shooters with a science fiction theme and the fun multiplayer, team-based action found in such titles such as Team Fortress 2, making PlanetSide 2 a very popular video game.
It is so popular that the title can be found in the Guinness World Records for featuring the most number of players all within a single online battle, at 1,158 gamers. That is a truly massive number, as most PC games can only support up to 16 or sometimes 64 players simultaneously.
The record-breaking online gaming session which lasted for hours was organized through PlanetSide Battles, an online community brought together by the game. Dozens of event planners and coordinators worked together to pull of the stunt, though it should be worth it as the record will most likely not be challenged any time soon.
The match included more than 53,000 deaths of players, more than 3,000 team kills and more than 7,500 destroyed vehicles.
If that does not catch the attention of PlayStation 4 gamers, it should also be noted that PlanetSide 2 is completely free to play. Interested players will not even need a PlayStation Plus subscription to get into the action.
PlanetSide 2 for the PlayStation 4 has been on its beta stage since January, but the release of the title is coming within the month.
Daybreak Game Company, which was formerly known as Sony Online Entertainment, has promised that it will continue to release updates for PlanetSide 2 for the PlayStation 4, including holiday-themed content, fresh features and new items.
"On behalf of the PlanetSide 2 development team, we'd like to thank the tens of thousands of players that have taken part in the Closed Beta testing," said Andy Sites, PlanetSide 2 director of development.
Sites added that the valuable feedback of the beta testers allowed Daybreak to make significant refinements to further improve the gameplay of PlanetSide 2 for the PlayStation 4.
