Let's face it: Lifetime movies are somewhat of a guilty pleasure. They always deliver on over-dramatic storylines and often questionable acting. However, when two of Hollywood's funniest people announce that they're making a movie for the network, most people assume it's a joke. Especially when that announcement came in April by funny man Will Ferrell.
Sounds like a good April Fools' Day joke, right?
Ferrell announced that the he, along with comedienne Kristen Wiig, would star in a movie for Lifetime called A Deadly Adoption.
However, Ferrell and Wig were serious: they filmed the movie through Ferrell's production company and that movie now has an official release date.
That's right, the Lifetime movie "A Deadly Adoption," will premiere on Lifetime on June 20, so put it on your calendars and/or set your DVRs. The film is about a married couple taking care of a pregnant woman whose baby they plan on adopting. Of course, as is typical with such films, things go awry.
That pretty much sounds like a typical Lifetime movie, right? But, obviously, the idea is to take that genre and turn it into something hysterical, something we're certain both Ferrell and Wiig are capable of. The Hollywood Reporter says the film is "campy and fun and a contemporary wink at the genre."
Although this still might all seem like a big joke, promotional posters recently went up announcing both the film and its release date.
Even the poster is funny, seeming very in line with what viewers expect from the Lifetime Network. And be sure to catch the description beneath the film's title there: "The birth of a plan gone wrong."
Of course, what if this is still all part of the joke? There is a mistake on that poster, because June 20 is a Saturday, the day that Lifetime usually premieres its films. The poster, however, says "Sunday." Is this some sort of Easter egg filling us in on the joke?
The poster is also the only piece of promotion out there for A Deadly Adoption: there aren't any websites, social media accounts or anything else out there concerning it.
So what do you think? Is this real or is this just an elaborate joke? Let us know in the comments.
