GameFly is stepping up and joining the ranks of online streaming services by offering games on Amazon Fire TV.
In doing so, GameFly joins companies, such as Nvidia and Sony, who also offer similar competing services.
The idea is that, like Nvidia Grid and Sony's PlayStation Now, GameFly will offer "packs" of games for a $7-per-month subscription that can be played on lower-end devices, like smart TVs. As the games are run in the cloud, that means that something like Amazon Fire TV could offer a good selection of games for those who have Amazon Fire products.
"Our goal with GameFly Streaming is moving forward to position cloud gaming, in the short and medium-term, as a compliment to console gaming, and in the long term, as the new technology," says GameFly CEO David Hodess in an interview with Ars Technica. "Nobody I speak to these days believes that there'll be another set of consoles as successors to the current ones."
So far, GameFly hasn't separated itself in its offerings from its competitors, but it's likely the company will go beyond what Nvidia and Sony do and expand to other smart TVs and OUYA.
