Rejoice fanboys across the world, it seems as if Microsoft is preparing to purchase Silent Hills from Konami. The report claims the deal could go into the billions, and that Microsoft is trying to close the deal before E3 2015.
Should this information turn out to be true, then it would be an enormous blow to Sony and a massive gain on the part of the Microsoft. The Silent Hills game has garnered a lot of positive press since the title was announced, so it is possible the software giant might have sensed a winner right off the bat.
Some aspects of this so-called deal don't quite add up, though. The report claims Microsoft could pay billions of dollars for the Silent Hill franchise, but why would the company do such a thing? Yes, it spent $2 billion on Minecraft, but that game is a different beast compared to Silent Hills. Minecraft is a new cultural phenomenon while the Silent Hill franchise is not quite on the same league.
There's no way Microsoft could make billions from such a title in a short amount of time. It would probably take multiple games, but with Minecraft, the $2 billion spent can be earned back with a single game and merchandise such as T-shirts and toys.
What we're really trying to get at here, is that it would be foolish for Microsoft to purchase Silent Hills for a billion dollars or more. If such is the case, then maybe the company would look into supporting the PlayStation 4 as well because that is the only way the game would stand a chance at a return on investment for Microsoft.
Maybe it is possible if Microsoft releases the game on Windows 10 as well. From what we have seen from the company, it appears every game it releases in the future will be available on both the Xbox One and Windows 10.
Stay tuned for more information about this as E3 2015 draws closer.
