Google is stepping up its VR offerings in a big way, and the company gave developers a preview of what it has in store for VR creators during its I/O 2015 keynote Thursday.
Google unveiled Jump, a new VR content creation tool with resources for shooting, editing and sharing VR content. This includes a new circular camera rig built specially to fit GoPro cameras, 16 of them in fact, that will allow users to shoot 360-degree VR video saved in one file.
Once you have your video shot, Jump will turn it into stereoscopic VR video that comes with color correction, 3D alignment and greater depth perception to offer a more immersive experience. This Jump assembler will be available to select users around the world beginning this summer.
In addition to an updated Cardboard headset also announced at I/O this year, users will be able to view VR content from Jump on YouTube starting this summer. You can currently stream nonstereoscopic VR content on YouTube.
