Daniel Craig already has one iconic role under his belt as James Bond — and he's about to add a second, equally iconic role to his already impressive acting resume.
According to actor Simon Pegg, Craig will make an appearance in J.J. Abrams' upcoming film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
But who will Craig portray in that epic film? Will he be a Jedi Master? Will he use the dark side of the force and play a villain? Will he appear in heavy makeup as one of the main alien characters?
The answer to all the above is a resounding no. Craig will actually appear in Star Wars: The Force Awakens as one of the most iconic Star Wars characters of all time: a stormtrooper.
In an interview, Pegg dropped the hint that Craig took on the role after journalists asked him about his own small cameo in the film.
"I wasn't a Stormtrooper," said Pegg. "Daniel Craig, he was a Stormtrooper... I shouldn't have said that."
The story surfaced about a year ago that Craig wanted a small secret role in the film and after approaching Abrams, he got it. Of course, at this point, Craig being a stormtrooper is just a rumor — and with Pegg being a comedian, it is quite possibly not even true. If it is correct, though, it seems the secret is out now.
But who doesn't like the idea of watching The Force Awakens when it opens later this year, knowing that under one of those white suits of armor is James Bond himself?
Craig recently returned to filming the latest James Bond film, Spectre, after being sidelined by a knee injury that required surgery. Spectre also stars Christopher Waltz and Dave Bautista as villains, along with Monica Bellucci, Stephanie Sigman and Lea Seydoux as Bond girls. Sam Mendes – who headed the previous Bond film, Skyfall – is returning as the director.
Meanwhile, Star Wars: The Force Awakens now has an official trailer, one that made many fans of the franchise weep tears of joy.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens worldwide on Dec. 18, 2015.
