Much has been said about the size of CD Projekt Red's open world RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Fans have compared the game's map to that of other titles like Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Grand Theft Auto V and found Witcher 3 to be far larger. CD Projekt Red has even boasted that Witcher 3 is 35 times larger than that of their previous game.
But as the saying goes, seeing is believing, and now that the Witcher 3 is in the hands of game critics everywhere we can finally see for ourselves just how big the world is.
Spoiler alert: the game is huge. Really huge.
As you can see in the video below from PlayStation Access, traveling from the southern side of the game's main area to the northern city of Novigrad takes more than 30 minutes, and requires traveling by foot, horse and boat.
The crazy part is that there are plenty of other villages and locations skipped over in the video as the player makes their way to the game's largest city. Looking at the map is almost intimidating. At the top of the screen the game tells you the number of different activities you've discovered so far, and it is just staggering. Gamers will be playing this one for a long time.
As the journey progresses you can see how the game's dynamic day and night cycle works, as well as the game's weather system. At the beginning of the video, the time in game is roughly around noon. By the time Geralt arrives in Novigrad after 30 minutes of traveling, the sun is getting ready to set.
It makes for an impressive sight. Seeing the wide world players will be able to explore is just another reason to be excited for the Witcher 3's May 19th release. In the meantime, you can check out how the game's world compares to that of Skyrim and GTA V, or read up on the characters and setting of the Witcher 3 with this guide.
