Jetpacks are real, and they are awesome. Just ask Yves Rossy, a.k.a. Jetman. For years Rossy has built and flown his very own personal "jet propelled wings" that allow him to soar through the sky like Superman at up to 124 mph.
He wowed the world back in Dec. 2014 with a video of him flying in formation with a jet, but he promised that even more jetpacking feats were on the way. Rossy has now delivered on that promise, unleashing a stunning new 4K resolution video of himself and his new jetpack protégé Vince Reffet zipping above the desert sands of Dubai.
The two talk about the experience of flying in the video below, remarking about the feeling of freedom that the jetpacks allow for. They also discuss Dubai, saying the region's unique blend of city, desert and ocean make for a fantastic playground. Though the two men come from different backgrounds (Rossy is a lifelong pilot, Reffet a base jumper), the two are united in their passion for flight.
And so they take to the skies, riding high above the city's skyline in a helicopter before free falling and activating their jetpacks. It truly is a sight to behold. From a distance you could easily mistake the two men for planes, as they fly perfectly in formation above the hustle and bustle of busy city streets. The two appear to be in complete control, flying right alongside one another, making turns and even flipping upside down. All this despite the fact that the men are flying at more than 100 mph with jet engines strapped to their backs.
You can just tell the two daredevils are having the time of their lives, and Rossy thinks he knows what is in store for men and women who want to take to the clouds.
"The future of human flight is clear," Rossy says in the video. "To be completely autonomous like a bird. The real dream is to be completely free."
It's a dream Rossy looks to be making into a reality.
