There are few movies that inspire as much delight among audiences of all ages like Pixar's Toy Story series. We've fallen in love with Woddy, Buzz Lightyear and the rest of the gang that make this computer-animated franchise fun and whimsical and heartwarming.
However, the Toy Story movies are not without their share of absolutely creepy moments too. I mean, these are movies about toys that come to life after all, which is a real fear. Whether it was the Dr. Frankenstein wannabe Sid, the conniving Stinky Pete the Prospector or the murderous Lotso, the Toy Story movies have actually been filled with characters and moments that make your skin crawl.
So should it really be a surprise that someone mashed up Toy Story with Stanley Kubrick's classic 1980 horror flick The Shining? No, it really shouldn't. Still, that doesn't mean the combination of these two movies is any less terrifying.
A few years ago not long after the release of Toy Story 3 in theaters, U.K.-based visual artist Kyle Lambert created a series of images that put the characters from the Pixar movie into scenes from The Shining using the Brushes app on his iPad. Don't you wish you could do just as much with your tablet?
The series caught the attention of the front page of Reddit Saturday morning, and if you haven't seen it yet, feast your eyes on some of the images from the aptly titled "Toy Shining" below. Pro tip: You might want to make sure the lights are on as you do so.
Lee Unkrich, the director of Toy Story 3, is actually a huge fan of The Shining, which inspired Lambert to create "Toy Shining." He later gave Unkrich a print of the series.
In fact, there seem to be a ton of references to The Shining in Toy Story 3. Now you know.
Check out the complete "Toy Shining" series over on Kyle Lambert's website. Hopefully, your childhood won't be ruined too much.
