Rex Ryan did his best to not say anything controversial last season as the New York Jets' head coach.
This season, now at the helm of the Buffalo Bills, all bets are off.
Not only does it seem like Ryan is going to speak freely — and probably talk trash — once again, but he wants his players to speak their mind as well.
Upon learning of running back LeSean McCoy's thoughts about Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly, Ryan didn't interfere.
"I'm not going to put a muzzle on any of our players," Ryan told ESPN. "We're not always going to be lined up."
He added that when players get traded or released by teams, it doesn't always end well, as in McCoy's case.
"Everybody's situation — sometimes guys leave and they're on ... they feel great about it ... some guys leave and they're happy to leave. Some guys are disappointed to leave," Ryan explained. "Again, I can't even begin to tell you what happened there or whatever. I think you just talk to LeSean."
Ryan was responding to McCoy's accusation that Kelly got rid of all the Eagles' "good black players," including him.
"The relationship was never really great," McCoy told ESPN The Magazine about how he and Kelly got along in Philadelphia. "I feel like I always respected him as a coach. I think that's the way he runs his team. He wants the full control. You see how fast he got rid of all the good players. Especially all the good black players. He got rid of them the fastest. That's the truth. There's a reason why. It's hard to explain with him. But there's a reason why he got rid of all the black players — the good ones — like that."
Ryan and McCoy will lead the Bills into Philadelphia for their December 13 game against the Eagles this coming 2015 season.
