When it comes to creating spinoffs of current devices, Samsung is master of its domain. The company has confirmed it will release an "Iron Man" Special Edition Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge to tie in with the movie's release.
Samsung is well known for releasing spinoffs and variants of its existing smartphones and tablets in order to cater to specific customers. With the release of the standard Galaxy S4 in 2013, Samsung quickly followed up with a family of Galaxy S4 variants. The company launched the tough and rugged Galaxy S4 Active, the camera-focused Galaxy S4 Zoom, Galaxy S4 Mini and Galaxy S4 LTE-A, which included a faster LTE-A radio capable of taking advantage of increased network speeds on carriers that supported it.
It appears that the recent release of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will continue Samsung's tradition of creating specialized variants of its current flagship smartphones.
We reported back in March that Samsung is already planning to introduce a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active and the device is reportedly heading to AT&T in the future.
A new report from The Korean Times, which has also been confirmed by Samsung, says the company is planning to introduce special edition "Iron Man" versions of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in late May or early June.
"The color of the new Iron Man phones will be red. We will decide on other details soon after discussions with Marvel Studio. It will be released either at the end of May or early June," said Lee Young-hee, head of marketing for the company's mobile division.
Young-hee made the comments after seeing the new movie in a Seoul theater. In addition to her, other Senior Samsung executives saw the movie, including handset division chief Shin Jong-kyun. Around 50 reporters accompanied them to the theater.
We'll be sure to keep you posted on the "Iron Man" Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge as more details become available.
