More 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Details Unveiled

In honor of May 4 (as in May the Fourth Be With You), Vanity Fair released new photos of footage of the upcoming and highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens film.

The magazine also revealed details about the characters in the film portrayed by Adam Driver and Lupita Nyong'o.

After unveiling its May cover featuring a photo of The Force Awakens cast (including Harrison Ford) by celebrated photographer Annie Leibowitz, the issue's main story tackles everything from who those actors portray in the film to J.J. Abrams' idea about killing Jar Jar Binks (insert here the sound of millions of Star Wars fans rejoicing).

"I have a thought about putting Jar Jar Binks' bones in the desert there" Abrams says to Vanity Fair while editing the film. "I'm serious! Only three people will notice, but they'll love it."

We also now know which characters Driver and Nyong'o play in the film. Driver takes on the role of Kylo Ren, a villain similar to Darth Vader who controls a group called the First Order. That group lives on an icy planet with an army of snowtroopers. Nyong'o takes on the part of a CGI character, Maz Kanata, an alien pirate.

The magazine also unveils a little about Oscar Isaac's character, Poe Dameron: not only does he pilot an X-Wing, but he is a member of the Resistance, which is the new name for what was originally the Rebel Alliance.

The following video follows photographer Leibowitz as she captures moments from the movie's set, including the one character who has, so far, brought tears to Star Wars' fans eyes: Han Solo.

Other images captured by Leibowitz include director J.J. Abrams giving direction to actors as well as a photo of Abrams with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, co-writer Lawrence Kasdan and composer John Williams.

You can pick up the Star Wars-themed issue of Vanity Fair online on May 7 and from newsstands on May 12.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in theaters on December 18.

In the meantime, check out the trailer for the film one more time and May the Fourth Be With You.
