It's Mother's Day, and hopefully you remembered to get your mom some flowers, make brunch reservations or at least give her a call on the old phone.
However, if this holiday somehow slipped your mind, you don't have to join the Worst Child Ever Club just yet. There's a great last-minute gift idea right at your fingertips, and it has already been paid for.
Why not fire up the old Netflix Instant Streaming this Mother's Day and watch one of its many maternal offerings with your mom? It's a combination of her two favorite things anyway: spending time with her child and binge-watching Netflix, hopefully in that order.
But let's just say you're not able to see your mom IRL this Mother's Day. That's OK too. Luckily, movies have given us many memorable mamas through the years. You've got Sandra Bullock's tenacious matriarch of the Touhy family in 2009's The Blind Side, the ill-fated mother in the 1942 classic Disney animated feature Bambi and the aloof Mrs. Bates in 1960's Psycho, just to name a few.
Good or bad, mothers make for some of the most compassionate, complex and charismatic characters in cinema ever. These six movies available on Netflix instant Streaming now will definitely prove that to you. And let's just hope your real mother is more along the lines of a Hollywood dream than a nightmare.
1. The Graduate (1967)
OK, so maybe The Graduate's Mrs. Robinson isn't exactly "Mother of the Year" material, but she was kind of like the original MILF, so you've got to give it up to her for that.
2. Mommie Dearest (1981)
This Mother's Day, tell your mom how much you love and appreciate her... for not being Joan Crawford.
3. Terms of Endearment (1983)
This one is a tearjerker, but you'll be hard-pressed to find a more loving and supportive mother-dauther duo than Aurora and Emma.
4. Forrest Gump (1994)
If you know one thing about Forrest Gump, it's that Forrest loves his mama. A woman that always says, "Life is like a box of chocolates," deserves all the praise she gets.
5. Fargo (1996)
Being a police officer is one of the toughest jobs in the world, but try fighting crime when you're super pregnant. All expecting mothers should aspire to be as cool as Fargo Police Chief Marge Gunderson.
6. The Kids Are All Right (2010)
There's not one but two fierce moms in The Kids Are All Right, and they show how to keep a family together when everything in their lives turns upside down like no other.
