Earlier this year, Google announced that Google Now will initially be supporting a total of 40 third-party apps, which then included Waze, Runtastic, Zillow and many more.
While Google limited the participation of third-party apps in Google Now, the introduction of support for such apps was significant as the move marked the company's first attempts to opening Google Now to the favorite apps of users in methods that provides control to the developers.
Google Now is "just a swipe away" assistant that is capable of keeping track of everything that is going on in the digital life of a user. The powerful tool is Google's challenger to Apple's Siri and Microsoft's Cortana.
"Our phones help us find answers to questions large and small, stay on top of what's happening in our day and in the world, and get things done quickly. The Google app can help you do all that, faster, and in one place," said the company in the post in the official Google search blog where it made the announcement of more developments in Google Now.
According to the blog post, Google has added 70 new apps as Now cards to work with the company's personal assistant on Android devices.
One of the new Now cards features Zipcar, allowing users to keep track of what time the reserved Zipcar should be returned along with the directions to the drop-off location of the rental. Tapping on the Google app will pull up all this information,
Users looking for a good music playlist now also have access to Now cards that can make recommendations from TuneIn, Spotify or YouTube, depending on the user's preferences.
News apps Circa, feedly and ABC News have also been added as Now cards, along with food apps Eat24, which tracks food deliveries, and Allrecipes, which provides users with recipes for both old favorites and new concoctions.
Fitness apps from Jawbone, Adidas and Runkeeper have also been added as Now cards to keep users aiming for their fitness goals, while OpenTable will allow users to pay for their dinner bills by simply tapping on a Now card.
Users can gain access to the 70 new apps in Google Now by updating to the latest version of the tool. The new Now cards will be rolled out over the next few weeks.
The blog post also made a promise of more apps and functionalities being added to Google Now, which should be good news for users that are appreciating the service.
