'The Flash': 5 Questions We Need Answered By The Season Finale

It seems like only yesterday that we eagerly watched the first episode of the CW's The Flash, but now the first season of that series is heading into its final four episodes.

With rumors running rampant (including some unfounded ones about Tom Welling appearing on the series as Superman), there are a lot of questions about this first season that still need answering.

Here are five burning questions we hope these last four episodes of The Flash deal with.

Why did Reverse Flash kill Barry's Mom?

It's still unclear what the motives of Reverse Flash, aka Eobard Thawne, are in killing Barry's mom. Was he trying to kill Barry instead and was Barry's mom just an innocent bystander caught up in the fray? It's unlikely that this is the case, but if that is so, what was so important about Barry's mother?

Will Barry go back in time and save his mother?

Barry has already time traveled once, so we know it's possible that he could finally go back and save his mom and get his dad out of prison. But, of course, changing the timeline would have a huge effect on the current timeline. However, Barry remains headstrong about this and it seems that the first season of the show has this as Barry's major goal.

We also know that Barry was there in his Flash form the night that the Reverse Flash killed his mother, so his traveling back to that moment is inevitable.

This could change the show's entire timeline: if he stops Reverse Flash from killing his mother, the real Dr. Harrison Wells might live. But if Wells lives, would the particle accelerator explode and create metahumans? If Wells lives, might that be the end of Barry as The Flash?

This alone raises a lot of questions about what Barry's saving his mother means for season two of the series.

How are Eddie Thawne and Eobard Thawne related?

We don't think it's a coincidence that Eddie Thawne has the same name as the man we now know took over Dr. Wells body. Is Eddie Eobard's father? Grandfather? As we've seen so far this season, there's no such thing as coincidence: there's a reason the two share the same last name.

And if that's the case, can Eddie's fate determine that of Reverse Flash?

What will become of the future version of The Flash?

Now that Barry has seen his future a decade away with the newspaper headline that reports "Flash Missing: Vanishes In Crisis," what does that mean? Will Barry also travel to the future to save himself? Will he uncover the reason why he vanishes? The Flash writers teased us with this throughout the season, so it must come into play at some point. The series is already setting up the notion that The Flash can change the past, but can he also change the future? And if so, what will the consequences be?

Will Barry finally tell Iris that he's the Flash?

Technically, Barry and Iris already had this conversation, but it occurred in an alternate timeline, one that Barry erased when he accidentally traveled back in time. But at this point, Iris is the only person around Barry that doesn't yet know the truth, and eventually, either she's going to find out, or he's going to tell her. Which is it? And what will it mean for the future of their relationship?

The Flash airs on the CW on Tuesdays.
