We at T-Lounge love us some Batman: Arkham games. We write about them frequently because they're some of the best video games ever created — and more importantly, they're consistently incredibly fun to play.
Needless to say, we are so on board with Batman: Arkham Knight. The upcoming conclusion to Rocksteady's trilogy looks flat-out stunning. We've extolled its virtues before, but every day seems to bring revelations of even more to love.
But $40 seems like a lot of money for a season pass. It might even be a record.
Warner Bros. Interactive has just announced the pricing for Arkham Knight's season pass, and it is indeed $39.99. That's two-thirds of the price of the game itself, which like most modern console titles retails for $60. WB also announced that a "Premium Edition" will be available to purchase for the combined price of $99.99. Both the season pass and Premium Edition are available for preorder now.
Is $40 too much for a collection of DLC packs?
Well, on the plus side, Rocksteady's DLC packs have always been chocked full of good stuff. Arkham Knight's season pass looks to be one of the biggest DLC packages ever offered — for any game. Warner Bros. Interactive says that Arkham Knight's season pass will include six months of "regular new content" comprised of:
• New story missions • More supervillains to fight • New Challenge Maps • New Batmobile race tracks • Additional Batmobile skins • Additional character skins |
It's hard to judge value without knowing the numbers of these new game elements. How many more story missions are we talking about? How many race tracks? How many character and vehicle skins? We have faith in Rocksteady, so hopefully it'll be more than enough to justify the $40 pricetag.
Batman: Arkham Knight drops on June 23, 2015 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
