Punk'd MTV Prank Show Making A Comeback On BET

Celebrities, beware! This serves as an official warning.

Black Entertainment Television (BET) announced on Thursday that it will revive Ashton Kutcher's MTV hidden camera prank show Punk'd as one of the network's seven new shows. BET is the sister network to MTV owned by Viacom.

The Punk'd show was originally conceptualized by the comedy actor Ashton Kutcher, who became the show's own host on MTV from 2003 to 2007. The show was massively popular and became a pop culture sensation.

During its original run, Punk'd was responsible for tricking numerous celebrities in unexpected and funny situations. After five years of Hollywood stars breathing easy, MTV resuscitated Punk'd for a couple of episodes in 2012 with a cycle of hosts including former Punk'd prankster Dax Shepard, Justin Bieber, and for the final episode, Ashton Kutcher himself. Presently it has not been confirmed yet whether Kutcher will be participating in the most recent revival of Punk'd.

BET said the new version of Punk'd will be tailored according to the viewers of the network, but the team behind the revival has not been determined yet. It was mentioned the new Punk'd will show viewers how the pranks are conceptualized and the effort behind carrying out the celebrity prank. There will also be a time limit on carrying out the pranks.

For 35 years, BET has been the most prominent television network associated with African-American viewers. The network established the BET Awards in 2001 to celebrate African-Americans and other minorities in music, acting, sports and other fields of entertainment. The awards are presented annually and broadcast live on BET.

Debra Lee, BET network CEO and chairman, said BET continues to give its audiences what they desire on television, including high-quality content that reflects, elevates and respects them.

BET will also be introducing docuseries Desean Jackson: Home Team, Criminals at Work, About the Business, and The Label, a look inside classic record labels from executive producer Chris "Ludacris" Bridges. Other new television shows to be aired by BET include Chasing Destiny, a reality singing competition hosted by former Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland, and Zoe Moon, a sitcom about a single mother.
