There is no greater sound than the slight sizzle, hiss and pop you hear when you open and cold beer on a hot summer day-- not to mention nothing tastes more refreshing.
While we love a perfectly-poured beer from the draft, how can we not bring out the bottled brewskis for barbeques or the beach? And with the new season comes summer-inspired beers that put a fresh spin on some of our favorite classics. Just about every summer activity has us reaching for something cold to drink, so why not pick up one of the best summer beers you can get your hands on?
And you're just in luck today because we have a list of the seven of them that are worth sipping on this summer.
Now remember, there are tons of summer beers chilling on the shelves. Of course, it comes down to your personal preference to determine which ones you think are the best. Some may taste better than others, and while there are many that we would want to add to this list, these are the ones that are more readily available, making them worth trying.
Here are the 7 best beers to drink this summer.
1. Brooklyn Summer Ale
Brewed by Brooklyn Brewery, this pale ale has an off-white head with amber color, along with a fruity aroma and a bit of hop bite. Brooklyn's Summer Ale has a light citrus flavor that makes it perfect for sitting out in the sun with friends, plus it's lightly carbonated, making it easy to drink on a hot day. With a 5.0% ABV, you can't go wrong with this Brooklyn-born summer beer.
2. Victory Kirsch Gose
Taste buds looking for a tart, light, fizzy beer? Pick up a Victory Kirsch Gose, a crisp and light summer beer which is more on the sour side with slight cherry flavor. This beer has a red/pink color with creamy pink foam, so it's not the manliest beer out there, but it does have a 4.7% ABV for session days.
3. Founders Rübæus
The Founders Rübæus is sweet-tasting beer that is crisp and fruity. While some think this beer is a bit too sweet for them, don't let you smell and taste of the raspberries fool you. It has a 5.7% ABV, making it sweet, yet stronger than the average fruit brew.
4.Tröegs Sunshine Pils
If you typically enjoy a pilsner, then Tröegs Sunshine Pils is a summer-must. It is hoppier than traditional pilsners, and has a perfect blend of malt and hop mixed with wheat notes. There is also the slight taste of orange and lemon that backs up the traditional pilsner qualities. It has a yellow color, and it's white head fades to leave the foam head thin. It's smooth going down, so this is a beer to bring along for a pool party or to enjoy after sports.
5. Southern Tier Hop Sun
If you enjoy a beer that blends citrus and earthy flavors, then pop open and pour a bottle of Southern Tier Hop Sun. This summer pale wheat ale has a 5.10% ABV. This beer is bitter with fruity hops and lemon zest for a slight wheat-to-orange finish. Those who have previously been turned off by wheat beer should give this floral hop summer beer a try.
6. Sierra Nevada Summerfest
This lager defiantly screams summer. Sierra Nevada Summerfest pours yellow with a foamy head , with the aromas of citrus, lemon zest and yeast. If you like the hop in other Sierra Nevada beers, you may be disappointed that Summerfest isn't quite as strong, but it's a refreshing change of pace for the brewery.
7. Lagunitas DayTime Ale
If you usually stay away from IPAs because of the overwhelming hops, then you will be pleased to taste a Lagunitas DayTime Ale. With 4.65% ABV, it's on the lower side of the alcoholic content scale, making it a good choice for day drinking. This beer is easy to drink, crisp and light. It has hints of citrus and grass with a slight hops taste. This ale is a perfect refreshment after mowing the lawn or for hanging in the sun.
