Flea has an offer for the Los Angeles Lakers that he hopes they take him up on.
The longtime Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist and die-hard Lakers fan tweeted the franchise over the weekend to ask them to consider letting him represent the purple and gold in the upcoming May 19 NBA Draft Lottery. He even guaranteed a first or second pick for the struggling team.
Well, at 21-61, the Lakers' chances of grabbing that No. 1 pick are already high. But why not let Flea rep them during the draft lottery? Couldn't hurt. The Red Hot Chili Peppers are about as die-hard to the Lakers as any celebs are to any sports teams. Their frontman, Anthony Kiedis, even had an NBA.com blog, where he wrote about his favorite Lakers ... you know, back when they were actually winning games. And like Kiedis, Flea is pretty opinionated about his Lakers and overall basketball matters, period. He showed his love for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar just yesterday.
And like many hoop fans, he's wondering why the Rajon Rondo-Dallas Mavericks' experiment isn't quite working out. OK, that's a stretch ... it's failing dramatically. Rondo's four points and only 10 minutes played in a Game 2 loss, before skipping out on reporters' questions, will tell you that.
Anyway, the ball is in the Lakers' court with this offer. Let's see what they do with it.
