'Star Wars Battlefront' Details Are Here: You Can Play As Heroes, No Space Battles

Star Wars Battlefront has officially been unveiled. The shooter taking place in a galaxy far, far away was shown behind closed doors at Star Wars Celebration, and now we have tons of details about the heavily anticipated title.

First and foremost: the game now has an official release date. Star Wars Battlefront will be launching Nov. 17 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Players have long speculated just how similar this new Battlefront title would be to previous entries in the franchise. For example, will players be able to duke it out as heroes and villains like Darth Vader, Boba Fett and Luke Skywalker?

The answer is yes. Players will be able to obtain powerups over the course of a match that will let a player take control of a powerful vehicle or character, in this case Darth Vader.

Battlefront will support up to 40 players as well as support split-screen co-op play. Confirmed maps for the game so far include the iconic Battle of Endor and Battle of Hoth, as well as battles taking place on Tatooine and a new battleground not from the films called Sullust. A free piece of DLC for the game titled the "Battle of Jakku" will let players relive a battle taking place on the newly revealed desert planet to be featured in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Players who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront will get the DLC for free on Dec. 1, other players will have to wait until Dec. 8.

Players will also be able to swap seamlessly between first and third person, as in previous Battlefront titles.

One detail that might be disappointing to some players is news that the game will not feature space battles. The scrapped project known as Battlefront 3 featured an ambitious plan to allow for seamless ground-to-space battles, but that will not be the case with EA's shooter. X-Wings and Tie Fighters can be flown in the game, but will function in a similar manner to planes and helicopters in DICE's Battlefield franchise, serving as support for ground troops.

But while there are plenty of new details about the game, there is still plenty we don't know about. We don't know, for example, what the game's single-player campaign will be like.

Expect more details at this year's E3 expo. Star Wars Battlefront releases on Nov. 17.
