Samsung is currently working on the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for the company's latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, as well as for the Galaxy Grand Prime.
Samsung's plans for Android 5.1 Lollipop were reported by Samsung news website SamMobile, as stated by their insider.
The insider also claims that Samsung is now working on Android 5.0 Lollipop for the Galaxy Core Prime and Galaxy Mega 2 devices.
Now that Samsung has rolled out Android 5.0 Lollipop to most of the company's previous flagship devices, it seems that the company has turned its attention towards releasing Google's new version of its mobile operating system for mid-range smartphones. However, the exact date for the release of the Android 5.0 Lollipop to the mid-range devices has not yet been revealed.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge come out of the box running Android 5.0 Lollipop, and users of the high-end smartphones will likely be clamoring for an immediate upgrade to Android 5.1 Lollipop.
SamMobile's insider also revealed that no build for Lollipop has been determined for the Galaxy Note 2 to be under development. It is thought that the Galaxy Note 2 will receive the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop along with the Mega 2 smartphone, but there is currently no guarantee that the second generation of Samsung's Note line will ever be upgraded from Android KitKat to Android Lollipop, despite the fact that certain regional arms of Samsung are claiming that the latest version of Android will be rolled out to Note 2 devices.
Samsung is anticipating record sales for the Galaxy S6, along with shortages due to strong demand for the Galaxy S6 Edge which features a dual curved screen.
Samsung said that it will be working to address the supply constraints for the Galaxy S6 Edge, which were caused by difficulties that were encountered during the production of the smartphones. The manufacturing partners of Samsung apparently faced issues regarding the production of the Galaxy S6 Edge's curved display, resulting in a yield that was lower than expected by 50 percent.
As for the Galaxy S6, the record sales are anticipated due to an overwhelming response from the market, consumers and wireless carriers. The Galaxy S6 is primed to outsell the Galaxy S4, a previous Samsung flagship smartphone that is currently the top-selling smartphone for the company.
