There are only 12 states that are offering hand-on time with the Apple Watch Edition, the most luxurious entry into Apple's new smartwatch line.
It's easier to go hands out with a Rolex than it is to get personal with the Watch Edition version of the Apple Watch right now, as the top tier of Apple's new smartwatch line is only available in 12 states and the District of Columbia.
In five states, there are no Apple stores, and that means residents will have to take a road trip to try on any of Apple's smartwatches. The other 33, those with Apple stores and without Editions, can find stores where they can try on the Watch and Watch Sport versions of the Apple Watch.
Where to Find Apple Watches
The Watch Edition, ranging in price from $10,000 to $17,000 over the eight versions of it, is made of 18 karat gold, which Apple says was strengthened to have twice the hardiness than the metal typical presents.
Those looking to try on Watch Edition can find stores demoing the smartwatch in Georgia, Florida, Virginia, New York, Texas, Nevada, California, Washington, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Delaware and the District of Columbia.
There are several states that, interestingly, won't have access to the Watch Edition right now: New Jersey, Michigan and Maryland. Maryland and New Jersey residents don't have to travel too far to find an Apple store with an Edition, but the Midwest, beyond Illinois, is barren of Apple's top tier watches.
Cult of Mac has put together a lovely little map to show which version of the Apple Watch will be available in what states for show and tell. To try to schedule your time with an Apple Watch, stress on "try," visit apple's website.
Apple's Policies on Watches
For many consumers, ponying up between $10,000 and $17,000 for a smartwatch, without even trying it first, won't be a small matter. All versions of the Apple Watch, in most cases, will fall under a 14-day return policy, according to a report from the Washington Post.
To protect purchases of the Apple Watch, consumers can also warranty the smartwatches with two years of repair service through AppleCare. AppleCare costs $49 for the Watch Sport, $69 for the standard Watch version and $1,500 for the Watch Edition.
There is also basic protection available to all version of the Apple Watch. Apple will address two cases of accidental damage for each watch it sells, though there will be a service charge for each claim.
Apple Watch Availability
Pre-orders for the Apple Watch started on April 10 and launch will be on April 24, though most people won't receive their orders until much later. Fulfillment of Apple Watch orders is expected to take four to six weeks after launch.
