That David Ayer and Jared Leto, man. What a couple of teases.
The director of Suicide Squad and the actor behind its most infamous role, the Joker, seem intent on showing us every step of the process of Leto's physical preparation for the film. First, Ayer showed us a glimpse of Leto's haircut after shaving his beard and trimming off those long brown locks he's sported for years.
Then, Leto showed the world his new look as a platinum blonde. We imagine the blonde dye was in preparation for Joker's green hair. Brown hair dyed green would show up pretty dark on screen. But apply green to blonde hair, and you've got the perfect recipe for Joker's signature 'do.
Next, video surfaced of Leto doing his Joker voice during a concert by his band, 30 Seconds to Mars.
Now, it's director Ayer's turn again, and from the latest photo, we can tell that they've finally commenced work with the green dye. Comic book fans might notice something else that's familiar about this photo's composition, too.
It's not clear if Ayer took this shot himself, or if Leto did using the camera he's holding and a mirror. But it's an unmistakeable homage to the cover of Alan Moore and Brian Bolland's seminal 1988 Batman comic, The Killing Joke.
See, what'd we tell you? Teases, the both of them.
And we hope they keep it up.
