Galaxy S6 Edge Reportedly Getting Android 5.0.2 Lollipop Update
Now there are two big differences between Samsung's Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone and the Galaxy S6. The Edge is getting a firmware update in its OS from the Android 5.0 Lollipop to Android 5.0.2.
The Galaxy S6 Edge is set apart from its sibling, the Galaxy S6, by its dual-edged display, as Tech Times has reported.
The news comes just under a week since Samsung started getting consumer complaints regarding damaged displays on initial handset deliveries to customers. The issue is with Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge handsets sent out by wireless carrier T-Mobile with consumers reporting lots of scratches on the gorilla glass display and dead pixels.
"Personally, I have had two Edges delivered to me, both with scratched up screens as seen here: https://i.imgur.com/u6dJsre.jpg. Does anyone else have this issue? What could be the cause?" asks a Samsung Galaxy Edge consumer on the social site reddit.
Samsung announced both smartphone devices at the Mobile World Congress event earlier this year and market introduction was April 11. While there are plenty of Galaxy S6 smartphones, Samsung has taken a 'limited' strategy in offering up the Galaxy S6 Edge, such as it took with its Galaxy Note Edge.
The Android update, according to one report, is 250MB and offers updated apps such as the TouchWiz and S Planner features.
The Galaxy S6 Edge, while very close to the S6 in looks and features, has a few other extras beside the curved display.
The handset offers a new alert system called Edge Lighting that lets the smartphone user know about a new message. The system lights up the entire edge of the phone for easy viewing and notification when the phone is not in a pocket or purse. The "People Edge" feature lets users color code the top five contacts for easy calling and messaging reach.
The Galaxy S6 Edge offers a 5.1 inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD dual-edge Super AMOLED display with a high pixel density of 577 pixels per inch. Like the Galaxy S6 it runs on a 64-bit octa-core processor and features 3GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The S6 and S6 Edge come in storage configurations of 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. Those who love selfies will likely love the 5-megapixel front-facing shooter.
Major wireless providers including T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon and AT&T are selling both Samsung Galaxy smartphones.
