The latest update on Periscope for iOS brings the app to version 1.0.2. Twitter has just rolled out the update, and it is available as a free download from iTunes.
The added features that come with the update include a new way to watch broadcasts, a quick way to block a user and a few bug fixes.
The latest version also allows users to discover streams more easily than before. With a new "Global" section, users can view the most recent broadcasts that are live streaming from around the world. Additionally, the home feed lets users view live broadcasts and replays that are tailored to their interests.
Another new feature is "Follower Only" mode, which allows a user to limit a broadcast to comments from people they follow. Once turned on, only viewers the user follows can comment in his or her broadcast.
The change in the type of commenting allowed in the app is further enhanced by a new block feature. When the user feels that there's a need to block a commenter, with a simple tap on a comment, the block option can be used.
Verified users of the app are marked by "Twitter Verified" badges, which reportedly appear in blue.
Other notable features include major improvements on the app's scrolling performance, bug fixes on that address hearts and comments not properly displaying and a fix on a caching issue that deals with the wrong display of a profile image.
While the new features can be deemed as significant changes, they can be potentially useless on popular broadcasts. For instance, Periscope automatically disables comments from a stream once it becomes too full.
Still, so far, the update makes it easier for users to find their friends' broadcasts.
Periscope was launched on March 26 and so far, it has enjoyed a relatively strong following according to analytics service App Annie. Currently, it ranks at No. 18 in the U.S. Social Networking ranks and at No. 123 in the U.S. Overall chart, where it even peaked at No. 31.
Periscope is currently available to iOS users. A few days ago, the development team announced that an Android version is now in the works.
