Mobile gamers have likely played Five Nights At Freddy's or have at least heard of it. The terrifying mobile game will reportedly be making its way to the big screen in a Hollywood movie.
Creator of the series Scott Cawthon will reportedly be involved in the project and it will be produced by the likes of Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg.
"We're looking forward to working with Scott to make an insane, terrifying and weirdly adorable movie," said Grahame-Smith.
"The story really lends itself to being a movie and it taps into a largely unexplored niche of horror that a lot of people will be able to relate to," said Cawthon.
The project has yet to be written and it is unknown just when it is slated to be released. Of course, there's no guarantee that we will actually ever see a movie based on the franchise, as movies based on video games rarely ever get off the ground.
The video game is based in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, which is basically a horror version of Chuck-E-Cheese. At the restaurant, animatronic animals play songs as a band to kids during the day, but they go on blood-thirsty hunts during the night. Players are tasked with spending a night locked inside the restaurant, having to conserve power for lights, with the knowledge that Freddy might jump out at any moment. Players are normally stuck in one room and have access to security cameras, enabling them to track the movement of the robots.
The game features five "Freddys," with four of them following predictable movements, and the fifth, dubbed the "Golden Freddy," only appearing after the player takes certain actions.
It is later revealed that the main character's name is Mike Schmidt, who is new as a security guard at the restaurant. While the Freddys were once able to roam free both during the day and at night, they now are only able to do at night, in order to prevent their motors from locking up. If one of the Freddys encounters a human, it will assume that it is encountering a robot that is not yet in costume, and it will stuff that person into a spare Freddy costume, of course killing them.
The restaurant is also where five children went missing, with reports from newspaper clippings in the game suggesting that a man put on a Freddy costume and lured the children into a room and murdered them.
There are three games in the series so far, with the third having been released in March.
