Arrested Development was brought back from the dead in 2011 thanks to an intervention from Netflix. The show's fourth season aired exclusively on the popular streaming service in 2013 and since then talk of a fifth season of the show has been floating around the web.
We have absolutely no idea when it's coming, but one of the show's producers did recently state how many new episodes of Arrested Development are in the works: 17.
Show executive producer Brian Grazer spilled the beans during an interview with Grantland. Skip to around the 24:30 mark in the video below to hear for yourself. Here is what Grazer had to say:
"People are loyal to it, and we're gonna do another... 17 episodes. So stay tuned for Arrested Development."
That's all we have to go on. No time table for when it might air or other details. It isn't much, but it is nice to at least know showrunners have an idea of what they are shooting for.
While talking about other projects, Grazer says he loves Arrested Development, even if it was never a huge hit. That's the reason the show was originally canceled by Fox back in 2006. Despite high praise from critics, the show never performed well in ratings.
The show's fourth season also left much to be desired for some fans. Due to talent constraints, each episode of season four revolved around one member of the Bluth clan. It simply wasn't possible to get the schedules of the cast to line up. Netflix content chief Ted Sarandos told USA Today it's a valid criticism when it comes to the latest season of the show. When Arrested Development season five does finally see the light of day, expect showrunners to have given it their best shot to remedy that problem. Whenever that will be.
