WhatsApp Voice Calling Will Hit Windows Phone Soon

WhatsApp has been busy rolling up its latest update to users. Recently, it has made available the much awaited Voice Calling feature to users of Android devices. This has allowed users to make calls to one another simply by using the app. iPhone and BlackBerry users are also receiving the feature in a few weeks. Now, the team from WhatsApp has confirmed that they are bringing the app's calling feature to users of Windows devices.

While it may have been expected beforehand that the feature will also become available to Windows devices, the news confirming its arrival only shows just how serious WhatsApp is on its promise to bring the app's Voice Calling feature to other platforms. It remains to be seen on which platform will receive the feature next following its launch on Android, whether it will be iOS, Windows phone or BlackBerry.

People from WMPoweruser are probably the first to get an official confirmation directly from the WhatsApp support team after inquiring about the availability of the app's voice calling feature on Windows devices. The response they received sounded good.

"Hi. Thanks for your message. WhatsApp Calling for your platform is still in the works. Unfortunately, we cannot comment on any future release timelines but we appreciate your interest in WhatsApp Calling," the WhatsApp Support Team wrote.

It has been speculated that the feature will launch first in Windows Phone before it does in the iPhone. It should be noted that when the WhatsApp messaging feature became available on the desktop, it has arrived first on Windows Phone before iOS.

Compared to other major applications, WhatsApp has made sure that its popular messaging app lands on a number of major platforms. These include Symbian, BlackBerry, S40 and Windows Phone.

Moreover, the company has maintained its stance on not to sell ads which has allowed users to have an uncluttered and consistent experience. Using the app for the first year will be totally free. The succeeding years will incur a charge of 99 cents a year.

There's no information on whether the company will also be sending the app's voice calling feature as an "invite-only" system to Windows Phone users similar to what it has done to Android on its initial launch. Now that the feature has been made available to all Android users, it's only a matter of time before anyone can confirm if the same procedure will apply to Windows phone.
