A long time ago in a galaxy not so far away, Marvel Comics gave curious moviegoers everywhere a sneak peak at what the first Star Wars film had in store. The rest, as they say, is history. Star Wars become an international phenomenon nearly overnight and Marvel has grown into one of the largest entertainment companies the world has ever seen thanks to its lineup of superhero films.
Now more than 30 years later, Star Wars and Marvel have once again joined forces. The new adventures of Luke, Leia, Han Solo and Darth Vader from Marvel are flying off store shelves, but it's important to always remember your roots.
That's what makes this latest announcement from Marvel so cool. The House of Ideas is collecting their original Star Wars comics into a new hardcover graphic novel that will be available for sale on May 5. Featuring brand new cover art from Adi Granov and remastered colors from Chris Sotomayor, it's the perfect way for new Star Wars fans to relive a classic story. The book even features scenes that never made it into the final film.
Turns out Luke definitely saves the universe rather than destroying it, as the comic for the first issue boldly teased. You can see the remastered version of that original cover below and then compare it to the original. Even though we know how the story ultimately ends, having the ability to go back and read this important piece of Star Wars history with a fresh coat of paint is exciting.
