SnapPower Allows Wall USB Installation Without Any Wiring

As we continue to purchase mobile devices and other USB-chargeable gadgets, it is becoming more and more useful to have wall-USB plugs.

However, this often requires an electrician to wire the plugs in. Unless, of course, you donate to this new Kickstarter for a new product called SnapPower.

"Wiring is a buzzkill. The SnapPower Charger installs in literally seconds, and requires no wiring whatsoever," says the Kickstarter profile for the new product. "Even when charging your devices, both outlets remain open and available for other uses at all times. With custom-built components engineered to fit entirely inside the cover plate, it's the sleekest, most low profile charger around."

The Kickstarter campaign had a goal of $35,000, but at the time of this writing, it was sitting on over $420,000 with a huge 43 days to go. It would be very conceivable for this project to make over $1 million.

One of the reasons that this idea is making so much money is because of how easy it is to install. Users simply need to unscrew their current power socket cover plate and slide the new one on, replacing the screw. The new cover plate comes with two latches that grab onto screws within the wall mount, providing power to the USB plug. Because of the fact that it's simply a faceplate that can be removed and replaced, it can also come off easily when owners decide to move.

It's important to note that the gadget will charge any USB device that is chargeable from 1 Amp chargers. What this means is that some tablets won't be chargeable from this wall-mounted product. It's best to check before you buy. It's also important to remember that it only includes one USB port per faceplate. Also, as is to be expected, the idea currently only supports U.S.-type power sockets.

Users originally would have been able to pledge $12 for one faceplate, but that reward has now sold out. The next goal up had 126 backers left at the time of writing, and gives users one SnapPower faceplate in a color of the user's choice for $14. For $16 users can get a faceplate in the color and style of their choice. Rewards then range from $20 to $120 or more, offering various numbers and options. It's better to act quick, however, because some of these prizes have also sold out.

The SnapPower faceplate is designed to fit any style, and comes in either white, light almond or ivory colors and in either "duplex" or "décor" styles.
