We've seen dozens of fan recreations of The Simpsons intro. It's one of the most iconic pieces of television, so perhaps the fact that it has been the subject of countless tributes isn't surprising.
What is surprising is how completely this latest recreation nails it. Rather than do a full-length live-action recreation of the whole Simpsons intro, the folks over at Cinema Raven decided to adapt one of the show's most memorable moments — Homer Simpson stuffing his face with a variety of junk foods from the season 3 episode, "Lisa the Greek."
It's ... mesmerizing. Frame-for-frame, the two scenes are nearly identical. Even more impressive is the amount of time it took to recreate the scene so perfectly.
The producer of the clip, Van Wampler, says the idea to do a live-action version of Homer's unhealthy eating habits came to Cinema Raven after a group of employees watched The Simpsons at their production studio one night.
"The choreography wasn't as challenging as we thought it was going to be," Wampler tells Metro.co.uk. "We went frame by frame with the show. It would have been easier if Caolan could see the monitor that was set up in front of him. He has terrible vision without glasses on, so we had to tell him what to do for all 200 or so frames. All in all, it took about seven hours from set up to delivery with a team of three."
Seven hours to create a nine second clip? But what a beautiful nine seconds they are. The level of detail is perfect. The sailboat picture in the background. The couch. The telephone. Sure, the walls aren't pink, and the man playing Homer Simpson, Caolan McArthur, isn't yellow and he's eating Cheez-Its instead of pretzels, but the differences end there. No word on how eating all that junk food made McArthur feel, but we are glad somebody stepped up to take one for the team and see this short brought to life. Watch the whole clip below.
