The May release of Mad Max: Fury Road is fast approaching and Warner Bros. doesn't want you to forget it.
That's why they've released yet another trailer for the film starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron. At first glance it looks to be mostly what we've seen before - namely cars made of jagged metal, explosions and sandstorms - but this trailer features plenty of new footage that should hold over fans until the film's official release.
In case you are wondering what those creepy guys in the trailer seem so upset about, check out the official plot synopsis for the film:
Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.
That definitely sounds like the Mad Max we know, but at the end of the day Mad Max is less about captivating story and more about brutal battles, loud cars that look like they could've just driven off the cover of Heavy Metal magazine and enough explosions to make Michael Bay jealous. Mad Max: Fury Road looks to have that covered just fine. Judging from the trailers it looks like the film is practical effect heavy - a welcome change from the over-done CGI we normally see in massive summer blockbusters like this.
Will it translate into a summer success story? It will be among the first blockbusters of the summer as it follows in the wake of Avengers: Age of Ultron, which should count for something. Warner Bros. is definitely taking a risk resurrecting a long dead franchise for the modern generation. The old Mad Max films released in a much different film environment than our current one, so it remains to be seen if film-goers will flock to theaters to see Tom Hardy take over in one of the roles that made Mel Gibson an icon.
All will be revealed when Mad Max: Fury Road speeds into theaters on May 15.
