'The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies' Gets The Brutal 'Honest Trailer' Treatment

After the success of The Lord of the Rings, it was only inevitable that a movie based on The Hobbit would be made.

It sounded fine until it was announced that, despite the fact that The Hobbit is shorter than just a single book in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, it would be stretched out into three separate movies.

In the end, the films were mediocre and bloated — but it was easy to tell that Peter Jackson and his crew were stretching for material the entire time.

Now that The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies is on Blu-ray, it only makes sense to go back and look at just how much filler Jackson and his team were able to squeeze into the trilogy. Looking back ... yeah, it was pretty bad.

Just take a look at the latest Screen Junkies "Honest Trailer" for the last Hobbit film, The Battle of the Five Armies.

Again, it's not like Jackson and his production team had much to work with: The Hobbit is shorter than The Fellowship of the Ring by a pretty wide margin, and trying to split such a short story into three two-plus-hour films without scraping the bottom of the barrel is impossible. Most people believe that the entire trilogy could have been made into one huge movie — but that sort of thing would never happen in Hollywood. Why have just one movie when you can have three?

Now that Honest Trailers has tackled all three of The Hobbit movies, you can go back and marathon all of their videos — after all, it's probably a lot easier than trying to sit through all of The Hobbit movies in a row.

You know, people make fun of these movies for being bloated, overly-long, padded and full of stories that go nowhere, but you have to admit: Smaug looks absolutely fantastic in every scene he's in. Why didn't Jackson and Co. just make a movie about him?

The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies is now out on Blu-ray.
