Computer Glitch Sends Out Erroneous Criminal Release Notices To Crime Victims In Oregon

A phone call notifies a crime victim that the perpetrator responsible for their agony has been released. The victim breaks down only to discover that it was all due to a computer glitch and the criminal is still behind bars.

This is exactly what happened to Nicole after she received a phone call alerting her that the man convicted of assaulting her sexually when she was 11 years old had been released from the Two Rivers Correctional Institution.

On Friday, March 20, a "major technical glitch" caused the computer system of Oregon's Department of Corrections (DOC) to send out erroneous notices to crime victims that their offenders were released from prison early. According to the DOC, the glitch in the Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE) system was likely caused by routine maintenance
