Oscar Mayer has devised a novel way to tease the senses of iPhone users. How you ask?
Mayer has created a quirky little device/dongle dubbed Wake Up And Smell The Bacon which, when paired with an iPhone and a companion iOS app, can be set like an alarm to wake you up. The unusual bit is that the alarm will wake users up with the sound of sizzling bacon, as well as a few wafts of pork-scented perfume.
Thanks to Mayer's invention, bacon fans will be able to wake up to its sound and even smell it every morning!
"With nearly two million mentions of #bacon on Instagram, it seems people never get tired of bacon. That's why our team decided to develop a device to give folks what they long for most," said Tom Bick, senior director of integrated marketing and advertising at Oscar Mayer in a statement. "As the category leader, Oscar Mayer is thrilled to bring the first-ever, bacon-scented mobile device to market, giving bacon aficionados a new reason to welcome their morning alarm clocks."
In case you were worried about the bacon scent running out, the dongle also comes with a refill. What's more, the device also recites soothing "baconisms" that can be enabled in the app.
"Experience bacon with all your senses," says the voice. "Like the deepest root, like the stormiest ocean, it's briney cure endures. Bacon exceeds everything you ever imagined."
For those hoping to purchase the device, there is some bad news as Wake Up And Smell The Bacon will not be available for sale. Oscar Mayer is only creating a limited number of devices and fans can lay their hands on one only if they are lucky enough to win the contest.
The contest, the latest project of the Oscar Mayer Institute for the Advancement of Bacon, is running from March 6 to April 4 and you will have to participate in a quiz on the Oscar Mayer website. Winners will receive their device within six to eight weeks.
