For years, Star Wars fans thought that Battlefront 3 would be the best game they never got to play. After breaking sales records with the first two games, Battlefront 3 - in its original form - was cancelled by its developer. However, following the deal that EA would handle all Star Wars games moving forward, DICE (the studio behind the Battlefield franchise) announced that they were working on a brand new Battlefront game.
Unfortunately, the only thing gamers got to see at the time was a short teaser - nothing in-game was shown back at E3 2013. It's been nearly two years since then, but Star Wars fans got some good news today: Battlefront 3 will make its official gameplay debut at Celebration in April.
"It seems like such a long time ago (at an E3 press conference far, far away) since we announced we were working on Star Wars Battlefront. Last year, we promised you would "See More in Spring 2015". Spring is coming.
We're thrilled to share that Star Wars Battlefront will be taking part in Star Wars Celebration next month in Anaheim, CA from April 16-19."
That's directly from EA's official site, and it confirms the rumors that have been circulating for weeks. Battlefront is finally on its way, and it won't be long before fans get to see it in action for the first time.
In terms of what will be shown in the demo, EA was tight-lipped, only promising that it would release "more information in the coming weeks." That being said, this is DICE, and the last few Battlefield reveals have been accompanied by lengthy single-player demonstrations. While there's no telling if Star Wars Battlefront would see something similar for its premiere, it would certainly fit within the studio's own trends.
Either way - fans finally get to see Star Wars Battlefront! This is a time for rejoicing!
Star Wars Battlefront is set for release sometime later this year.
