Cyberpunk is different from a lot of other science fiction: instead of squeaky-clean world where technology is the savior of mankind, cyberpunk looks at a future where technology brings out the worst in everyone. Over the years, some of the best examples of the genre have come out of video games - while there are plenty of movies, TV shows and novels based on the not-so-glorious future of mankind, there's something special about interactive cyberpunk.
This week, Steam is celebrating the best of dystopian sci-fi the only way it knows how: by discounting some of the best cyberpunk titles ever made. Enter the Cyberpunk Sale!
Obviously, there's plenty to love about cyberpunk itself, but the nice thing about cyberpunk video games is that there are so many titles spread across a litany of different genres. Usually, when someone says 'there's something for everyone,' it's just a marketing tactic - here, it's the truth.
For instance, if you're into shooting, there's Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon or the first two Crysis games. If you're looking for more of an adventure, there's Dreamfall Chapters or I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream. For RPG fans, there are the Deus Ex games and Transistor - the list goes on and on.
The best part is, most of the titles are pretty heavily discounted. Transistor is sitting at 66% off, while the Deus Ex franchise is sitting at 80% off. Most of the other titles fall in that range, but the crown jewel of discounts goes to E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy - which is currently sitting at the coveted 90% off mark.
If there's a downside to the sale, it's that it'll be short-lived - the Cyberpunk Sale will only last until this Friday. So, if you want a little dirt and grime to go with your science fiction, make sure to pick your games up soon.
The Steam Cyberpunk Sale starts on March 17 and ends on March 20th at 1pm EST.
