The court has told a beleaguered Chris Brown that he needs to undergo two more months of rehab for his anger management issues and drug use, on top of the 750 more hours of community labor that he still has to do, and which he is scheduled to complete sometime in October 2014.
The famous singer, only 24 years old, has been having problems since his much-publicized trial that ensued from his beating of his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, in 2009. He pleaded guilty to a felony assault, and he was sentenced to five years of probation and 1,400 hours of community labor. However, the judge revoked his probation last year, because he was recently arrested near the White House, of all places, for punching a man along a sidewalk.
It seems that Chris Brown's personal life could not get a move on. However, it looks like his doctors have finally identified the cause of his violent behavior. His court documents include a letter from the rehab facility that mentioned that the singer is suffering from insomnia, bipolar syndrome and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
"Mr. Brown will also require close supervision by his treating physician in order to ensure his bipolar mental health condition remains stable," the letter said. "It is not uncommon for patients with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Bipolar II to use substances to self-medicate their biomedical mood swings and trauma triggers. Mr. Brown became aggressive and acted out physically due to his untreated mental health disorder, severe sleep deprivation, inappropriate self-medicating and untreated PTSD."
Despite this letter, though, the judge still decided to keep Brown in the anger management and drug abuse rehab program for another two months, because he has to be tried in Washington for assault first. After the assault trial, the judge will decide whether Brown should go to jail for violating his probation for the 2009 assault on Rihanna by punching a man in Washington.
Brown has been in the rehab program for three months now, and perhaps the singer's anger management rehab is working, since he has shown noticeable control and composure when the judge handed down this decision. In an impeccable silver suit, Brown closed his eyes and appeared to meditate silently as his attorney, Mark Geragos, conferred with the judge and the prosecutor privately regarding this decision
His probation report also showed his seemingly more temperate and positive nature. He was quoted as saying that he, "would like to inform the court that he appreciates what he has learned in the rehabilitation facility, as it has allowed him to change his life for the better," and that "he remains thankful to the court for the opportunity to find out and learn about himself, his anger issues and the type of person he wants to become, which is a man who is able to better himself and be a positive role model."
Later on, he tweeted, "Never really goes the way u plan #LIFE." His fans seem to be all agog at this new Chris Brown.
Brown is currently doing community labor with a highway cleanup group three days a week. He reports in 24-hour shifts, and has already completed 250 hours. He is set to do 750 hours more, and at the rate he is going, will complete his required community labor by October 10.
