TGI Fridays Catcalls Food In New #AppCalling Commercial

These men are pigs. They yell phrases like "Damn!" while licking their lips, their hungry eyes folllowing the app as they see it walking down the street.

No, we are not talking about the men catcalling women on the street. We are talking about the food objectified in TGI Fridays' new satirical commercial where men catcall delicious appetizers.

All-you-can-eat apps? Yeah, we are ready to pig out, too.

"Nobody likes a catcaller," the video text reads, and this is so true when talking about people. But if you saw mozzarella stick walking down the street, how could you not do a double take?

The restaurant chain hired the filmmaker Rob Bliss, the man responsible for this viral catcalling video, to troll foodies by teasing them with its new all-you-can-eat appetizer items.

Just like the viral video, the TGI Fridays commercial follows the food items as they walk down the street, receiving comments like "Looking good!"

Fridays uses the hashtag #AppCalling, saying that it's okay to objectify food.

"We believe app-calling (not cat-calling) food is a funny premise," Brian Gies, Fridays' CMO says. "Please note that no apps were harmed as a result of this video!"

The satirical commercial is not supposed to be taken seriously, but instead be a way to get social media savvy millennials in for a meal. The Endless Apps with Endless Choice promotion allows customers to order an appetizer and receive refills on any app item until they had enough...all for $12.

The apps include nine items such as boneless buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, loaded potato skins and pan-seared pot stickers.

The promotion is available until April 19, and is slightly tweaked from the summer's Endless App promotion which was "wildly successful."

Well see if the new commercial backfires by offending customers, or if pop culture-loving foodies will be down for the deal.
