In a bizarre effort to stay relevant, MTV has decided to host its first ever "Break the Record Week," which claims to be a five-day event that's main purpose is to get into the Guinness Book of World Records. And just when you thought MTV's only function was to air consecutive episodes of Ridiculousness, they proved you wrong.
Beginning at 11 p.m. on March 9, MTV will host a 24-hour Beyonce dance marathon outside of MTV's headquarters in New York. MTV hopes the nonstop dancing will break the "Longest Dance Marathon Relay" record. On March 11, MTV is putting on #MostMeowsInAMinute. This is exactly what it sounds like. In an attempt to get the most meows ever recorded in a minute, MTV is asking its audience and their cats to submit videos of them meowing. Because they ran of record-breaking ideas, on Thursday MTV is hosting #EpicWin Day. The network is asking its viewers to break any record of their choosing and share their results on social media. The week finishes off with #2025Capsule, where MTV tries to snag the highly sought-after "Most Contributors to a Time Capsule in 24 Hours" title.
The week is comprised of events that seem like they were thought up by some Richter scale of Internet virality. Beyonce? Cats? Something with the word #Epic in it? Yup, it's all packed into one little week. So get ready for a lot of cat videos and irrelevant hashtags flooding your feed.
