I don't know about you, but the bar mitzvah invitations I've received have always come in an envelope on some fancy stationery. The traditional route is lovely and all, but this video that has gone viral in the past couple of days is the bar mitzvah invitation to end all bar mitzvah invitations.
Soon-to-be-a-man Brody Criz starred in his very own bar mitvah invite video that included parodies of some of the biggest hits of 2013 and 2014. Criz implored invitees to "Clap along if you feel the Old Testament is the truth" to the tune of Pharrell Williams' "Happy," gushed that "All of me/Would love all of you/To come attend my mitzvah party" in the style of John Legend's "All of Me" and declared "I'm allowed to be spoiled (spoiled)" while wearing a black, curly wig to mimic Lorde in her music video for "Royals."
Brody's mom Ali came up with the idea, which actually isn't much of a surprise because everyone knows moms make the best bar/bat mitzvah planners. She wanted to parody Top 40 songs as a way to do something unique for his bar mitzvah invitation, according to TODAY.com. Brody seemed more than happy to oblige.
"I love to make people laugh," he told TODAY.com. "It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I love to see when people have smiles on their faces, so, I [wanted] to go above and beyond with my bar mitzvah invitation."
Patrick De Nicola of Xpress Video Productions filmed the video and changed around the lyrics in the songs to make them more bar mitzvah-friendly. They're actually not that bad! Since the video was posted on YouTube on Feb. 26, it has garnered almost a million views at the time of this writing.
If you watch the video, you will see that Brody gets very into it, so much so that he wears all kinds of costumes and sometimes nothing at all, or at the least illusion of it for the "Blurred Lines" parody section of the video. While the video will probably make you cringe at some parts, overall you will be delighted by this kid's infectious enthusiasm. Dude knows how to sell it.
Check out the full video below, and hope that you snag an invite to Brody's next shindig.
