StubHub, the world’s largest ticket retail marketplace, is partnering with commercial music streaming service Spotify to create a concert discovery app for Apple iOS users.
Dubbed the StubHub Music iOS app, the recently launched product allows users to sync their Spotify libraries to learn of upcoming concerts featuring their favorite artists. Promising up to more than 100,000 live event listings on any given day, StubHub Music says its users can more easily discover who is coming to their city through focused recommendations and notifications.
Here's how it will work. Through its integration, the StubHub app will scan a user's Spotify music library to discover their favorite performers. Then, it will use its algorithm to announce to users when and where these artists will appear in concert.
“We are constantly thinking of ways to create a personalized experience for our fans,” says Gary Kanazawa, head of StubHub Labs, in a statement released Thursday. “StubHub Music is intended to help fans make sure they are not missing their favorite artists when they come to town.”
Users who sign on to utilize the service will also be able to share details about events with friends, send and receive new reminder notifications, buy concert tickets directly from the app and, of course, listen to songs and access artist bios. The StubHub Music application's latest update unveils a “Music News” section, which comes with robust interviews and videos pegged to the company’s “music experience” at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin.
Starting on March 17, the StubHub Music Experience will be a three-day series of live music showcases at SXSW featuring burgeoning artists such as Future Islands, The Vaccines, The War on Drugs, Portugal and more. In addition to that, the app will include artist-recommended shows, SXSW hotspots, and up-to-the-minute news bits detailing all the happenings during the live music festival.
