5 Must-See TV Shows With Female Leads That You Can Stream Right Now

March is Women's History month, and in honor of that, we've been watching a lot of television featuring strong, independent and kick-butt female characters.

Right now on TV, you can see female characters ranging from tough-as-nails mob bosses to a group of clones more dangerous than anyone else in the sci-fi genre.

And the good news is that you can see all these characters online via streaming services Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. So take a look at our favorite female characters currently on TV right now:

Abbie Mills - Sleepy Hollow

Grace Abigail "Abbie" Mills (Nicole Beharie) is the lead female character on Sleepy Hollow, who ends up being one of two "witnesses," responsible for keeping the encroaching apocalypse at bay. She's also a cop, as well as Ichabod Crane's mentor, and does her best to protect not just the town she loves, but also her family, friends and the world. Sleepy Hollow gets bonus points here because it's also one of the more diverse shows currently on American television.

You can watch Sleepy Hollow on TV, of course, on Fox, but it's also available on Hulu if you aren't caught up just yet.

Sara - Orphan Black

Deciding on just one character in Orphan Black that's the best is nearly impossible, but when it comes down to it, Sara wins the title. Sara is the first clone that we meet in the series and it's through her eyes that we see a twisted world that includes identical copies of herself (all wonderfully played by actress Tatiana Maslany). Sara is also one of the most badass characters on the series and goes to great lengths to protect her daughter.

However, we'll give an honorable mention to Orphan Black character Allison Hendrix, the gun-toting soccer mom clone. We also like the incredibly intelligent Cosima.

You can watch Orphan Black on BBC America or catch up with seasons one and two exclusively on Amazon Prime.

Fish Mooney - Gotham

You can put a good woman down, but you can't keep her there for long. And, apparently that goes double for a woman like this. Gotham's Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) is down, but definitely not out: even in a prison that uses inmates for body parts, Fish stages a coup, takes over leadership among the inmates and then talks her way out of prison and into a management position.

We've also seen that she will go to great lengths to get what she wants, including removing her own eye with a spoon just to make a point. Bet you never saw June Cleaver do that.

Gotham airs on Fox, but you can also watch on Hulu.

Felicity Smoak - Arrow

Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) might not have the ability to take down villains in a fight, but she's the brains behind the entire Arrow team. She's the one at the computer screen tracking down the bad guys and making sure that her guys in the field have the technology they need to get things done. She's often overlooked by the Arrow squad, but that's about to change, thanks to her new relationship with The Atom.

The first two season of Arrow (The CW) are on Netflix, but you can watch the most recent episodes on Hulu, too.

Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren - Orange Is The New Black

At first, when we meet Suzanne "Crazy Eyes" Warren (Uzo Adubo), we just dismiss her as someone who's completely nuts. But we learn in later episodes that Suzanne's mental illness is very real and a result of her troubled childhood. Although she has violent tendencies, she also possesses kindness and it's Adubo's portrayal of the character that makes her real and gives her heart. We eventually learn that she hates being called "Crazy Eyes" and that maybe there's more to the woman people easily dismiss as crazy.

Orange Is The New Black is available exclusively on Netflix with a third season arriving in June.
