Nintendo prides itself on being a family-oriented gaming company, creating titles that anybody can play. Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U is no exception. Easy to pick up and play but difficult to master, Nintendo's latest racing title is one of the best games on the Wii U thanks to its broad accessibility.
So what happens when you get a group of senior citizens who have never played Mario Kart before and pit them against one another? That would be the latest Elders React video from popular YouTube channel TheFineBros.
The elders aren't exactly great at the game, but that doesn't stop them from having a good time. Nobody seems quite sure how to use power ups or turn corners. In one instance, one elder doesn't know how to accelerate. Maybe a brief tutorial beforehand would have gone a long way?
Several of the players freak out upon falling into the water or other areas that would typically be hazards in more realistic racers. They immediately assume falling into the water is bad. But this is Mario Kart! You can race upside down, under the ocean and anywhere else Nintendo decides. Once the elders accept that the world of Mario Kart isn't constrained by reality they seems to enjoy the game even more.
Each senior struggles against the game's computer opponents, finding themselves in 10th, 11 or 12th place. The action heats up in the final race, which pits three of the winning seniors against one another. It quickly becomes a battle for 10th place as the three racers struggle to cross the finish line.
It's all a little painful to watch if you consider yourself a decent Kart player, but at the end of the day all that matters is the people playing the game are having fun. Judging from the reactions of these seniors, that was definitely the case.
