As time inches closer to the unveiling of the already award-winning Apple Watch smartwatch, creator Jony Ive is encouraging interested users to show off their own creativity via a companion application.
Apple, which is set to debut its Apple Watch at an event on March 9, has been on everyone's watch (pun intended) list. A new website called Mix Your Watch has just been launched that allows users to customize their gadgets. With so many imaginative people out in the world, Apple is offering them a fantastic way to showcase their own impact. The tools to customize were released by developer Steven Troughton-Smith and include some settings that are really worthwhile.
While the companion app for the Apple Watch is still in beta, in that build, users can witness four parent menus that relate to contacts, health-related applications, messages and calendar. On the unofficial website, there are three main options to select for the watch’s case -- steel, aluminum and gold. There are minute color variations for each choice. For the band, there's a wealth of options to chose among. From steel to leather to fluoroelastomer, each comes in more than a dozen different colors. Fluoroelastomers are a synthetic rubber which is resistant to chemicals, oil and heat.
The third-party website doesn’t include any price estimates, which should be of concern to those who want that gold option, and while you can't order from it you can enjoy playing with the designs. The watch got design kudos at the 2015 iF Design Awards, where it earned a gold award in industrial design at Munich's International Forum. Judges said the design "honors the rich tradition of watchmaking" and noted its "Digital Crown is an innovative way to navigate, the display features Force Touch, which senses the difference between a tap and a press, and the Taptic Engine enables a new vocabulary of notifications you can both hear and feel."
All in all, the Apple Watch is expecting to be on a lot of people’s wish lists before, during, and after the company’s Spring Forward event on March 9. We encourage you all to have fun trying to make the most beautiful or even the ugliest watch you can!
