MWC 2014 promises to be a wild ride with wearables, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and a Nokia Android smartphone

Mobile World Congress starts on Feb. 24 in Barcelona, Spain. This long-awaited consumer electronics show will be packed to the bring with interesting new devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S5, a smartwatch from HTC, an Android smartphone from Nokia and many more. Here is a compilation of all the most interesting devices we expect to see at MWC 2014:

Samsung Galaxy S5

Obviously, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is a shoe-in for MWC 2014. Samsung has already confirmed that it will be holding an Unpacked event on Monday, the opening day of the show. The comapny recently released a teaser trailer for the highly-anticipated device, which drops a lot of hints about the new flagship. The Galaxy S5 is expected to feature a 5.25-inch 2K display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. It will definitely be running Android 4.4 KitKat and feature a stunning new 16-megapixel camera on the back. The device's build quality and processor will also get an upgrade, sources say. Some reports hint that the S5 will be waterproof and come in two versions: a premium and standard model. Regardless of what's inside, the Samsung Galaxy S5 will surely be the star of the show.

HTC Wearables

According to recent reports, HTC won't be releasing its new HTC One at MWC 2014, but it will be launching three new wearables. Two of the three will be smartwatches, one with a Google Now focus and the other with the Mirasol display from Qualcomm's Toq smartwatch. HTC's third wearable will be a music-playing bangle, sources say. It will be interesting to see how well the HTC smartwatches turn out after all the build up.

Nokia Android Smartphone

Nokia will allegedly present its first-ever Android smartphone at MWC 2014. Little is known about the smartphone, but expectations are running high. Many users love Nokia's design aesthetic, but hate Windows Phone 8, so the fact that Nokia is making an Android smartphone has made a whole bunch of people very happy. Most expect the Android Nokia to be a low-end device, aimed at entry-level markets. It is expected to have dual SIM support, a 3-megapixel camera and a low-resolution WVGA 4-inch display. In spite of the low-quality specifications, expect to see a ton of people crowded around the Nokia booth after the Android smartphone is announced.

Sony Xperia Z2

The Sony Xperia Z2 will also reportedly make its debut at MWC 2014. The Z2 will feature an improved camera and a new camera app, that will allow users to take 16-megapixel still shots with the 20.7-megapixel camera sensor on the back. The smartphone is expected to have a 5.2-inch display with a high-resolution, 16 to 32 GB of storage built in and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor under the hood. It will run Android 4.4 KitKat, as well. Sony fans are sure to be geared up about the Xperia Z2.

Alternative Operating Systems

Another big thing we'll see at MWC 2014, is a wide array of operating systems. Mozilla Firefox, Jolla Sailfish, Tizen and Ubuntu are all expected to make an appearance at MWC 2014. Speculation is rife that Samsung will announce the second generation of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch with Tizen onboard. Other rumors point to a Tizen-based smartphone from Samsung. There will certainly be a fair share of Firefox OS smartphones floating around at MWC, too. Although none of these new operating systems have widespread support yet, it's clear that the crowd is turning against Android, at least among device manufacturers like Samsung who want to have a little more say in how an OS works on their devices.
