It has now become simpler to capture and upload videos to YouTube using Android-powered smartphones with a newly released update.
YouTube for Android now allows users to bypass uploading very long videos, as the update adds the feature of trimming excess footage from videos.
The new feature of trimming videos has been rolled out to users of the Android version of the YouTube app, which comes with an inline preview to make sure that users are trimming off the rights parts of the video before uploading the footage to the Internet.
The update was announced by YouTube through a post on Google+, with the explanation of the handiness of the new feature when uploading videos to the Internet while on-the-go. It is common for users to begin recording videos well before the event intended to be captured to make sure that the exact moment is included. Examples of such events include the launch of fireworks displays and a potential game-winning shot in a basketball game.
However, when the recorded video is uploaded to YouTube, viewers want to be able to see the exact moment without having to go through the wasted footage at the start.
The update to YouTube for Android now allows users to record extra footage at the start of their videos, as those can just be trimmed later to be able to get to the video-worthy moments right away.
There is no change to the way that users upload videos using the Android app for YouTube, except for a new step that is added to the process for cutting excess parts of the video.
When uploading videos, users will be able to see a timeline that has a pair of control points. The points can be adjusted to set the video's beginning and end, which will remove all the unnecessary parts of the video to be uploaded. Videos can be trimmed frame-by-frame, and users can touch and hold on a frame to take a closer look while editing.
After the user has finished choosing the beginning and ending point of the video, it can be previewed to check if the trimming is correct before being uploaded to the video-sharing website.
The new video-trimming feature can be activated simply by updating the YouTube app through the Google Play Store.
In the Google+ post, YouTube also revealed that the feature may also be coming soon to the iOS version of the app.
