Hulu has appointed former Sony Network Entertainment Senior Vice President Tian Lim as the company's Chief Technology Officer (CTO).
Lim replaces former Hulu CTO Richard Tom, who left the company in March 2013 along with former CEO Jason Kilar to start a new project. Brad Sutar oversaw Hulu's technology team on an interim basis ever since Tom departed from the company. Sutar will now directly report to Lim.
Hulu is a subscription service that offers ad-supported, on-demand video streaming of TV shows, movies and webisodes. The company also provides trailers, clips, and behind the scenes footage from WWE, NBC, ABC, Fox, TBS and other networks and studios. However, Hulu videos are currently available only to users in the U.S., its overseas territories and in Japan.
At Sony, Lim led a team of engineers and oversaw North America Engineering and service operations. Lim's team was responsible for leading client and service engineering for the PlayStation Store on the web, PlayStation (PS3) and PlayStation 4 (PS4), and several network features of the PS4.
Prior to Sony, Lim also worked with the Microsoft Xbox team for eight years. Lim led the development of Xbox Live service, Xbox 360 operating system and Kinect.
"Tian's depth of experience working on the leading technology platforms and devices in the marketplace, will be invaluable as we scale and, simultaneously, continue to provide the best user experience possible across every platform - living room, mobile and web," said Mike Hopkins, CEO of Hulu. "Under Tian's leadership, with a world-class software development, operations and program management team behind him from our offices in Santa Monica to Seattle to Beijing, I know the future of our technology organization is extremely bright."
Hopkins joined Hulu as the CEO in October 2013 and since then quite a few additions have been made to the company's executive team. On Feb. 10 this year, Hopkins appointed Peter Naylor, former Executive Vice President of Ad Sales for NBC News Digital, as the SVP of Hulu sales. In October 2013, Hopkins also hired Elaine Paul, former SVP of Disney Corporate Strategy, as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company.
Hopkins confirmed that Lim will join Hulu in two weeks time on March 3.
